The Endless Conversation in Your Head
Overthinking…
It's a habit most of us are all too familiar with. Sometimes it’s a comment, a look, a message that never came, a cancelled plan, or someone simply misunderstanding us. The list goes on. Tiny things can eat us up inside to the point where it feels like the whole world revolves around that one issue.
But why do we overthink so much?
Often, those obsessive thoughts come from deeper places. Maybe it’s our need for approval, a fear of not being enough, or an old wound we’ve never really healed. Our brain constantly tries to find solutions but the truth is, not everything can be solved. Or maybe it can, but we’re so caught up in it that we can’t even see the solution anymore.
Is ''just let it go'' really that easy?
Let me be honest, it’s not.
Telling someone ''don’t overthink it'' is easy. But quieting the noise inside your own head? That’s a whole different story. Because those thoughts aren’t just thoughts they’re a mess of emotions. Anxiety, hurt, fear, and yes, sometimes even pride.
But here’s what I’ve realized:
The more you overthink, the bigger it gets. The bigger it gets, the more space it takes up. And the more space it takes, the less happiness you have left. Honestly, it gives me a headache.
So what can we do?
I’m not saying ''never care, just let everything go.''
That’s not human. We all have boundaries, sensitivities, and values. But it is important to ask yourself:
Is this really worth it? Is it real? Is it even in my control?
Even asking those questions is already a step forward.
Instead of overthinking, try going for a walk. Call a friend. Put on a good song. Make yourself a coffee. Do some breathing exercises.
These small things, even slowly, can shift your mental focus.
And remember this: Sometimes in life, you just have to accept things as they are. Not everything has a solution but that doesn’t mean you have to carry it all inside.☺
